The satellite communications technology has been developing rapidly in order to seek increasingly larger bandwidths. It requires to operate at higher frequency carriers (such as Ka-band and Q / V). At such
frequencies, one of the critical points is the effect of the atmosphere on the propagation path. These effects include attenuation, depolarization, scintillations and reduction of coherence bandwidth of the signal. Therefore, it is very important to build models that accurately simulate the effects of the atmosphere components on the propagation. The development of attenuation time series generators is one of the most efficient tools for system engineers to model the behavior of the atmosphere enabling simulations to validate satellite systems and fade mitigation techniques The aim of this project is to develop a total attenuation time series generator for LEO satellite applications that are becoming more and more appealing. Modeling LEO satellites radio channel is very challenging due to the fact that, in addition to meteorological changes, the satellite is seen by the ground station at variable azimuth and elevation during the short contact time and this factor must be taken in due account account in developing the model.
