:HIGH-SPEED MULTICHANNEL ELECTRONICS FOR BROADBAND COHERENT RAMAN IMAGINGAbstract:
Every organic compounds, cell or tissue, is characterized by a specific vibrational spectrum, also called "Fingerprint", which is a function of the chemical bonds and structures of molecules. Raman spectroscopy is commonly used in chemistry to provide that fingerprint spectrum by which molecules can be identified and analysed. This method is non-contact and label-free, samples interact with a broadband laser beam consisting in sub-20fs pulses with 40MHz repetition rate. The result of this interaction has to be acquired and amplified by a low noise multi-channel acquisition system in order to produce all the necessary informations for the chemical analysis. This work is part of the VIBRA project - Very fast Imaging by Broadband coherent RAman - headed by Dario Polli in the Department of Physics of Politecnico di Milano. The goal is to build an innovative microscope for real-time and non-invasive functional characterization of tissues and cell. Final application concerns cancerous cell differentiation and detection of neuronal tumours.
