:Integrated Electronic Circuits to Control and Readout Biosensors

Training4CRM is a four-year project, funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 Programme. The project is highly cross disciplinary and focuses on bridging the existing gaps within Cell-based Regenerative Medicine (CRM) for treatment of neurodegenerative disorders (e.g. Parkinson’s (PD), Huntington’s (HD) Epilepsy (EPI)) by joint training and education of 15 PhD students within and across different scientific disciplines. The goal is to master the design, fabrication, integration and testing of completely new tools and materials within the fields of micro and nanoengineering and biotechnology. The Training4CRM network comprises 6 academic institutes and 3 industry partners from 6 European countries (Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Italy, and the Netherlands).
As a PhD Research Fellow in the Dept. of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering (DEIB) at Politecnico di Milano (Italy), I will be a member of this multi-disciplinary team. I will be responsible for the development of integrated electronics circuits at transistor-level in CMOS technology aimed to control and readout biosensors for in vitro and in vivo experiments. The circuits will include:
-a high-sensitivity front-end for electrochemical biosensors;
-an actuation stage for optical and electrical stimulation of cells;
-an analog/digital interface for the communication with external components.
The integrated circuits will be fabricated, tested and mounted in a lightweight and miniaturized platform to monitor and sense cellular differentiation in vivo experiments.
