:Cutting edge solutions for high-performance processing of events in the time domainAbstract:
Processing of time events is a hot topic in recent years due to the requirement in an increasing number of fields for high-resolution and high-performance systems able to efficiently interact with the time domain. In particular, the task of generation and measurement of time events with a sub-nanosecond precision, especially multi-channel with a seamless integration in the existing systems, is highly desirable.
A novel approach to the time event processing is by the use of programmable devices like FPGAs and SoCs, which are able to drastically reduce the Time-to-Market and the cost while still providing a high level of flexibility and performance.
The aim of this research will be the study and implementation of the possible solutions regarding the handling, generation and processing of high-resolution time events, with special focus on the integration with existing system.
With new tools, new tasks arise, like the challenge of integrating in a high-performance fashion the programmable hardware with the Operating System in the SoCs, which require new and bleeding-edge approaches to fully exploit the interaction of the two worlds, spatial and temporal computing.
