:SPAD cameras for advanced microscopy and time-of-flight rangingAbstract:
The core of my Ph.D. project is the development of cameras for time-resolved single-photon measurements in photon-starving applications. I will design and develop cameras for different applications, optimizing the co-partition between on-chip processing and FPGA data elaboration, targeting many fields that can greatly benefit from this technology. I will first address quantum microscopy, where my SPAD cameras will enable spatial and temporal resolved images and videos for detecting photon coincidences, entanglements, and superpositions of quantum states, thus allowing super-sensitivity, low excitation light power and large ﬁeld-of-view. Then, I will conceive and develop camera systems for depth-resolved 3D ranging, based on ToF (time-of-flight) measurements, aiming at automotive applications and autonomous driving, with either scanned or flash-lidar set-ups.
