:High-performance modelling and simulation for the control of large-scale systems.Abstract:
Some aspects of the modern engineering involve modelling and simulation of systems having unprecedented spacial and temporal scales. As a direct consequence, emerges the need for new modelling and simulation tools specifically designed to be able to manage these kind of systems.
Previous works proposed the use of the Object-Oriented Modelling and Simulation (OOMS) formalism as the key point of the overall process due to its being multi-physical, modular and supported by valid technological tools. Moreover, they also highlighted the rise of two needs: one of them is the connection of this technology with the world of databases, while the other one is the creation of adequate pre and post processors to allow each of the professionals involved in the project to manage models and results in an understandable way, even without knowing the details of the technology.
This thesis aims both at finding the correct model-based representation of a system and at improving the efficiency of the simulation process. It will deal more directly both with the mathematical and technological issues brought in by the larger scale of the systems considered and it will concentrate in obtaining efficient simulation tools and on their influence on the control of large-scale systems.
