:Design of Low-Noise W-band frequency synthesizer
The aim of the major Ph.D. project is to build a beyond-state-of-the-art frequency synthesizer covering the W-band (75GHz-110GHz), in a scaled CMOS technology, with spectral purity suitable for applications such as 5G New-Radio communication systems, automotive radar for assistive guidance, or ultra-fine medical imaging.
The key idea is to cascade an intermediate very-low-noise K-band (10-30 GHz) frequency synthesizer locked to an external quartz oscillator and an efficient W-band harmonic generation block, using pulsed-injection-locked oscillators and optimized by digital calibration loops.
