:Signal Processing Methodologies for Small-Size Transducers in Consumer ElectronicsAbstract:
Since the rise of smartphones and, in general, of the IoT era, consumer electronics has become one of the most important market segments. In order to provide always better products, e.g., integrating many different and reliable electronic systems in the same device, sensors dimensions are experiencing an ever-increasing shrinkage. Speaking about small-size transducers (e.g., piezoeletric transducers, MEMS microphones and loudspeakers for mobile applications), accommodating all the technical requirements without having the possibility to play with the components size is becoming more and more challenging: everything should perfectly work in a very limited amount of space, with minimum distortion, high efficiency, low computational cost and reduced intrusiveness. For instance, when dealing with small-size loudspeakers, we immediately face significant problems due to their strong nonlinear behavior and far-from-ideal frequency responses. Moreover, speakers can undergo temperature variations that can jeopardize the overall performance. My research will be devoted to finding new and efficient signal processing methodologies to alleviate such problems.
