:Correction of non-linearity in VCO based Delta-Sigma ADCs.Abstract:
Ring Voltage-Controlled-Oscillator (VCO) based ADCs take advantage of the intrinsic integration link between frequency and phase to implement an open loop Delta-Sigma ADC. Their advantage over standard analog implementation is the absence of bulky analog components like amplifiers and capacitors whose size do not scale down with technology improvements. Unfortunately this advantage come at the cost of an higher sensitivity of the output code to VCO intrinsic non-linearities thus implying an ultimate limit to the achievable ENOB. Different approaches to solve this problem were presented in literature but still the performances are not comparable with standard solutions. The aim of this thesis is to investigate analog and digital technique to mitigate this problem.
