Biosensors arrays based on water-gated organic thin film transistors for highly sensitive clinical diagnostic
The project aims at the realization of a 8x12 array of biosensors based on water-gated organic thin film transistors realized on plastic substrates by means of large-area, scalable and cost effective processes, such as inkjet printing. The array will be compatible with standard ELISA plates, for its easy clinical implementation and comparison with existing diagnostic techniques already present on the market. Thanks to the very high and unprecedented sensitivity of organic transistors based biosensors, such arrays will enable early detection of a broad range diseases at clinical level. In particular, pancreatic cancer diagnosis will be targeted within the context of the European project “SiMBiT”. Several organic semiconductors will be printed over metallic electrodes patterned on a plastic, flexible substrate, and their characteristics upon aqueous gating will be evaluated, to assess their electrical performances. Particular attention will be given to reproducibility and stability of devices, to enable robust sensing.
