Cybersecurity enabled protection and optimization of active distribution networks in smart grids
The work deals with cybersecurity in power systems where the universal power system automation standard IEC-61850 communication protocols have been exploited for vulnerabilities and their impact on power systems has been evaluated. Moreover, holistic mitigation strategies for time stringent protocols in the standard such as Generic Object Oriented Substation Events (GOOSE) and Sampled Values (SV) have been proposed after validating the false data injection attacks on these protocols using real time digital simulator (RTDS). The future study will be to make these countermeasures more efficient, expanding towards the other protocols in the standard and deeply studying the role of distributed energy resources (DER) when cyberattacks are applied in such network and how it effects the power grid and finally how can we secure the system both on information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) levels.
